Tell us a bit about yourself

I’m a Civil Engineer who specialized in Interior designing but ended up Jewelery designing by sheer passion for the creative art.

Why is making so important to you?

MiyaMika is a reflection of my love for handcrafted accessories. The joy of creating something new all by oneself is immense. It gives a sense of satisfaction which wasn’t possible during my days as an Engineer.

How did you begin your label and how has it evolved over the years?

MiyaMika started as a hobby between two friends which soon became a brand. Sowmiya and myself started MiyaMika (MIYA from Sowmiya and MIKA from Rashmika) in 2015. But soon afterwards Sowmiya got married and settled abroad. Since then I have been doing it on my own and I started to take up terracotta designing as a full time work only a year back.

What is your personal favorite pick from your label right now? And why?

The casual wear pendants in rope chains. Its a personal favorite because every pendant is unique and can be effortlessly paired with the everyday outfits of the present day women.

What are your displaying at the By Hand, From The Heart.

This season’s collection includes terracotta pendants with rope chains, terracotta beaded chains with ceramic, glass and natural stone beads, Jhumkas, studs, chandbalis and magnets.

What is a typical working day, like.

I start with painting of the fired terracotta pieces in the mornings because of the better natural lighting. I work on the clay molding aspects , late evenings.

Any design story you would like to share.

I always like to experiment different materials with terracotta. So for this season’s collection I thought I’ll try incorporating wooden buttons in terracotta pendants. Since wood and terracotta both are natural materials I felt they would complement each other and i’m very happy with the outcome!
