Tell us a bit about yourself and your artisans.

We are a glass art studio specialising in creating jewelry using a world renowned Glass fusion technique akin to ‘Murano’ ( Murano is a city in Italy which is credited with the origin of the art form). The technique involves heating the glass over 1000 degrees into a molten state which leads to creation of myrid shapes and color . Often inspired by nature, the method of creation used renders it impossible for any two pieces to be identical, making it a true testament to art – or as we like to call it , wearable art. To give it the Indian flavour, our karigars then encase the glass in contemporary designs using brass metal and the finished pieces are gold plated ( 18.5 K) to give it the final sheen.

Why is making so important to you?

One is either making or selling something someone else is making. The former was the option which was more creatively satisfying and fortunately for me, being a glass artist gave me the avenue to run a business which is centered around creating.

How did you begin your label and how has it evolved over the years?

I quit my corporate job at Network 18 to work with a glass artist. During the course of learning glass as an art and exploring it nuances, encouraged by a friend, I decided to explored the idea of making jewelry with it. What started off as an experiment, thanks to the tremendous response we received from our clients, eventually took the shape of the brand you see today.

What is your personal favorite pick from your Ikroop right now? And why?
The Orbit Ring. Its probably the most versatile piece and it’s also our most popular creating

What are your displaying at the By Hand, From The Heart.
We are coming to Chennai for the first time so I’m looking forward to presenting both my coloured and clear glass collection and hopefully they’ll get a good response.

What is a typical working day, like.
The days I’m firing something new, I focus on experimenting with new colours and patters. Other days are actually like a regular office, ideation, marketing plans, shoots , emails etc.

Any design story you would like to share.
I’m not sure if it qualifies for a design story, but the last exhibition I did, I was walking around the venue and I saw almost 7-8 women wearing my jewelry. And they hadn’t bought it there. It a great feeling to actually see your work on someone. I guess that’s the best part about being a designer, you can be a part of so many lives.
