A free spirit, – impulsive and determined, I am excited and ready to face the challenges that Life throws at me, with a shrug and a smile. I enjoy meeting new people and getting to hear all about their stories.

What inspired you to start your business – The Personalizing Studio?

I completed my four-year Bachelor of Visual Arts (BVA) course at Stella Maris College, Chennai, and since my second year, where I opted to work with paper, I’ve have been in love with paper. Everything about Paper enchanted me – textures, colours, shades, the sheer touch and feel.

The nostalgia and love for paper kept me intrigued through the rest of college. The passion I felt while working with paper made me start considering the myriad possibilities that Paper as a medium opens up to a designer, especially in the area of personalization. In a time, where the digital space is extensively used, I felt it is important that we revisit our old means of communication and spend a few minutes everyday doodling or writing about something close to us using our old favourite pens or pencils on paper. It was this urge that led to the formation of my all customised stationery line “The Personalizing Studio”.

Why is designing so important to you?

I am happiest when I am designing. Plugged into my favourite playlist for the day, I can get absorbed in my work so totally as to lose track of all time. Designing for me, is a way to express myself and also to communicate with the world around me. Ultimate achievement of this communication is when your design resonates with the customer and he or she is able to effortlessly able to grasp the design aesthetics you had originally intended for the project.

Your work space.

I can work from anywhere, whether it be my studio in Alwarpet or lying on the sofa in my living room with the laptop perched comfortably on my stomach. Once I am in the mood, the environment doesn’t matter that much. Designing being a creative process cannot be confined to the boundaries of a normal office timeline. So, I work odd hours, the less said the better!

Inspirations.

While inspiration is all around us, it has to be tempered down to suit the client’s brief. This is something I strongly believe in. In instances where the client has a vague idea but is not sure about what he wants, it is important to sit down and have that talk about the present day trends in paper personalizing, the substrates available, the effects that can be obtained using screen printing, digital and other processes.
