Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am a product designer by graduation, a serial entrepreneur and ethnographer by profession, comic illustrator and an artist by circumstance.
Atramentous Art. How did it come to be?
It all started with a refrigerator that was dented in transit. I drew a spade on it with a black marker to cover it up and kept adding more elements to over time. The style stuck on and went on over many found objects from mannequins to bones to cars.
Can you describe your creative process?
I take a break from being an adult with responsibilities and pressures by making child like illustrations with only a black marker. The lack of colour is a kind of sensory deprivation, differentiating it from what surrounds us. Each element is kept simple, basic and raw. A considerable portion of my work has been a visual diary of many life incidents. Many objects which often are ignored have caught my attention and inspired me to make them a part of my work.
Can you describe your work space?
I don’t have a designated work space, I work anywhere and everywhere, right from the streets to the toilet, depending on the mood and inspiration. Each space has had a different impact on my and therefore reflected on the work.
What is the most rewarding part of all of this for you, as an artist?
The most rewarding part is that it is extremely peaceful and calming. It brings the tornado of thoughts to and end.
What’s the best thing about being an artist?
Doing something you like without expecting anyone to like it or approve of it.You have absolute freedom and are not bogged by dogma.
What’s up next for you?
I on planning on experimenting with Black on Black art.
