Today on the blog,  we feature Puneet Brar, an independent potter trained in Ceramic Design at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad  and later studied at Mantra Pottery under Angad Vohra. After an apprenticeship with Art Ceramique Atelier Delarue in France, she moved to Auroville to eventually set up Wind Glaze Pottery Studio. Puneet Brar will showcase her works at our Coimbatore event – By Hand From The Heart Makers Market.

A bit about yourself. 

I am Puneet Brar and clay happened to me the moment I walked into the ceramic studio at the National Institute of Design. I had gone there for another purpose and I walked out with a decision that has been my life since. Everything has revolved around clay for me since then. I am a full time practising potter having my own studio called Windglaze Studio Pottery for the last 17 years.

Why making is important to you.

It gives me a sense of control over the ever-changing nature of life, it instills belief in myself, makes me feel I can tide over difficult times, it gives me joy and achievement when I make a good product, it makes me feel connected in a deep way to our needs for beauty and function. I feel so privileged to be able to earn my life as a maker.

Your label – How did it come to be?
After having spent years developing my craft, producing large quantities for the best labels around the world, training people to be potters, I now have something to say about the aesthetic I prefer. This is what I want to share . I am constantly developing new glazes and motifs to give life to this aesthetic.I want to create a look of timelessness.

What is the most rewarding part of all of this for you, as an artist?  
The fact that I am responsible for what I want to make. That it goes from our hands to the hands of the user.

What are your displaying at the By Hand, From The Heart Makers Market in Coimbatore? 
I am going to be displaying, tableware which includes mugs, dabra sets, teapots,jugs, bowls platters and plates/ thalis and some ceramic jewellery.
