Sister and brother, Rashmi and Rupak Munje will present their art works at the Makers Market this February in Coimbatore. Let’s find out more about the siblings, their inspirations and their collective in this feature. Rashmi speaks…
Tell us a bit about yourself.
Rashmi: Our journey of Autistic to Artistic is quite challenging as well as exciting. We found bliss with Rupak and his paintings. Since he is also non-verbal it is pure and born out of silence and love which is also reflected in my art!
How would you describe what you do; and how long have you been making and creating?
Rashmi: Around 2010 when Rupak was just 14 we started to wonder what will Rupak do in the future? We asked ourselves the question and the answer started to unfold by Rupak’s art teacher Melissa Enderle when we discovered artist in him. Later my father decided to continue her legacy. Under the mentorship of my father Rupak has created more than 150 paintings and 20 shows. Today we are a family of artists which is inspired by my autistic brother!
You have showcased with By Hand, From the Heart in Chennai. What has been your experience?
Rashmi: We thank By Hand, From the Heart for recognizing Rupak’s talent and giving him an opportunity. Our journey with By Hand, From The Heart started in 2013 and we have participated in 5 shows with them in Chennai! Each time has been better than the previous one. We have met people from across the globe and Rupak’s paintings have found home in people’s heart. We are also grateful for the fact that you encourage entire family. We are excited to meet Coimbatore art lovers for the first time!
What are you displaying at By Hand, From the Heart?
Rashmi: Apart from exhibiting paintings of Rupak & me we would like to spread awareness about autism through table Rupak’s Desk calendars, T-shirts and Coffee mugs etc.
